Growing up being proud of his upbringing regardless of the lower socioeconomic background, he came to a point where he can be proud of where he came from without baring the survival instincts that came with growing up there, knowing there is a better life for our Pacific Islander families around the world to grow and become great no matter the situations they were born into. Nomad and Jase Beathedz team up with D.T to represent where they’re from and what they overcame to get to where they’re currently at.
D.T expresses his life living in Seattle Washington and Fremantle Western Australia during his verse, not letting the listener know which experience was tied to which city, but gave an understanding of the similarities of each cities own struggle. Also pointing out that happens when false hope that public schools give us, is met with abrupt racism in his system stating “schools failed us but what they tell us is “anything is possible.” The jury’s all white, so anything is plausible.”
Nomad explains clearly what it’s like living in the Westside of Victoria explaining it’s the “hottest city on this side of the earth”. He did not hold back on his residency and his awareness of the postcodes separating them from better areas. Not to mention calling out the corruption happening in his local government mentioning “they want us to steal from each other, kill one another, yeah you know what that’s about!”
“This is the reason songs like this exist. We are not afraid to speak our truths and let the world know we understand what they are doing in these neighbourhoods. But no matter what it is, the rose will always grow through the concrete.”
No matter WHERE U FROM, what you been through, we are in this together which is why the song ends with shout outs listed at the end from everyone around the world representing where they’re from.
